Reflection on our design

"Your task this term is to use any specific boardgame as inspiration to create a novel interactive experience"
So lets review. As a group we decided to take Hungry Hippos board game and apply it to an interactive experience.
In the game the hippos consume spherical objects to gain points for the players. We took the first part of the logic of this game and applied it to our project. We wanted the hippo to move and look the same way as it does in the game and obviously consume something.

After noticing how big Plymouth University are on recycling and how keen they are to get people to do so, we decided to take that enthusiasm and utilize it to make recycling fun. If we can achieve such a task, more people would be encouraged to recycle.

So instead of simply putting rubbish in designated bins, the rubbish would be interactively eaten by our hippo installation and then play an environmental message.
However we did intend a much larger prototype to be used (The red hippo) but due to its size and unsound structural integrity the mechanics just didn’t work.
Perhaps if we had more time and money we could have made the prototype out of plastic, but this was just not feasible and not required for a simple demonstration. Therefore we made a third hippo(The green hippo) which was larger than  the prototype hippo( The blue hippo) but big enough to demonstrate our idea.

Whilst reflecting back over the entire process we as a team conclude it has been a success.  The first years managed to bring some interesting ideas to the table, which enabled us to further develop them and make them technically possible.

Overall a good project with a successful concept that we are proud, back up by well thought out ideas and research.
