The new idea

After deciding not to go with the original idea we needed to break the game down to pick a specific element to use. We broke it down to the interaction with the player, and the actual mechanics/motion of the hippos. Then whilst looking for inspiration we noticed the recycling bins placed around the campus.




We realised that there were 4 compartments, and 4 hippos. With this the idea started to form. We eventually settled upon a mechanical recycling station, with the four hippos lined up, each colour a different material, and when the user places their rubbish on a specific spot it triggers a sensor (possibly a light beam breaking), which in turn triggers a motor to make the head and neck extend (like in the original game), close over the rubbish, and drag it back to drop into a concealed bin below, whilst playing an environmental message based upon the material type.
